For over 20 years (according to the radio commercials, their website, and several radio personalities who host nights at the club) this has been Northeastern Ohio's #1 Spot for live comedy.
The club is open at least 5 nights per week. The regular schedule has a single show at 8:30 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, then shows at both 8 and 10:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
Some weeks,
additional shows are offered on Sunday or Monday nights.
The headliner and feature acts change from week to week. I would guess that somewhere between 45-50 different lineups hit the stage in a year as a few acts are booked more than once during the year.
The average show has 3 different performers and runs approximately 1-1/2 hours.
Seating has tables seating between 4-12 people. If you are a couple, on a less than sell-out night you will probably have a table to yourself. If the showroom is full, you will share your table with another couple.
The club offers food and beverages.
The dining menu covers the full gamut from typical bar snacks up to full meals including steak, seafood, and chicken. Prices are competitive with what you would pay at an Applebee's type of establishment.
A full bar offers a large assortment of bottled and draft beer as well as mixed drinks. Soft drinks are also available.
Food and beverage specials are offered each night.
Ticket prices for a regular lineup ranges from $6 (Tuesday) to $14 (Saturday) with slightly higher prices for more recognizable names.
The best value comes from signing up for the club's weekly "e-Newsletter" via the link on the front page of the club's website at www.FunnyStop.com
The e-Newsletter includes special offers for free and significantly discounted tickets. The only requirement is making a telephone reservation using the special code phrase from the e-Newsletter.
The caliber of comics varies, but so does people's tastes.
Only a handful of the headliners are from the area. The majority are 'road comics' who make their living by traveling all over the United States, performing at clubs and colleges.
The Funny Stop does a nice job of providing a diverse lineup.
Older, younger, black, white, men, women, comics, hypnotists... they are all represented on a regular basis on the Funny Stop schedule.
Jimmy JJ Walker was a recent 'recognizable' name and the upcoming schedule lists two different entertainers who made it to the finals of the most recent season of NBC's "Last Comic Standing".
Every Tuesday's night show begins with the club's long running "Amateur Night" competition. Approximately one half dozen performers get 5 minutes to work on new material and the good ones are invited back for a pair of "Ohio's Best Amateur Comedian" competitions. The Tuesday show still includes the feature act and headliner after the amateurs.
The Funny Stop is location in a strip shopping center that has a sports bar directly across the hall. Next door to the club is a fast food business and across the street are a pair of pizza places which offer many after show options.
A large parking lot is available for use behind the strip shopping center in addition to the limited spaces in front. The club has entrance doors available from both parking areas.
